Governor Phil Scott to Attend Vermont Day at The Big E, As the State Promotes More Than Just Its Products

On Saturday, September 23, Governor Phil Scott will attend Vermont Day at the Big E, New England's largest fair, in Springfield, Mass.

Vermont Day and the Vermont Building exhibits provide the state an opportunity to highlight its products, culture and heritage for more than 1 million attendees each year. This year, the state has expanded its offerings beyond products, with the Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets teaming up with the Department of Tourism and Marketing to showcase how Vermont is a great place to live, work and do business.

A new initiative from the Vermont Department of Labor (VDOL) will also promote job opportunities in Vermont. VDOL Communications and Outreach Coordinator Brenda Greika developed a campaign to promote "live" jobs. The campaign includes postcards with information on jobs currently open in Vermont. The cards contain salary information, job location, qualifications and a code that will allow applicants to apply directly to the job through VDOL's jobs database, VermontJobLink.com.

"Governor Scott has called on all state employees to think differently about how we can work towards his goals to grow our workforce," said Greika. "I've been attending the Big E to share Department of Labor information for a few years now, and so often I hear people say they wish they could move to Vermont. This year, I thought I'd show people they can move to Vermont. We've got great jobs across the state, and this was a way to show people actual jobs they could apply to today."

Visitors to the Vermont Building will be able to pick up information on more than three dozen available jobs. Greika selected a range of skills, educational requirements and salaries.

"Expanding our workforce and growing our working-age population is one of the most critical things my Administration is working to achieve," said Gov. Scott. "It's great to see the commitment from our entire team to reaching this goal, and I look forward to seeing the results from Brenda's efforts. The Big E is a great opportunity to showcase Vermont, and the work of our Agency of Agriculture and Departments of Tourism and Labor will certainly show Vermont has a lot to offer -- from our products and services to our career opportunities."
