Farms Open Their Doors to a Public Hungry for an Authentic Vermont Experience
The second annual series of events celebrating Vermont's farm-fresh foods has been scheduled: Vermont Open Farm Week will be held August 15-21, 2016. Each day, farms across the state will open their doors for public events to showcase their part in Vermont's vibrant local agricultural traditions.
The inaugural Open Farm Week in 2015 was an exciting start to this new tradition. More than 80 farms participated and every farmer who responded to the post-event survey indicated a desire to hold Open Farm Week again. Based on the positive response to last year's events, organizers anticipate an even greater number of farms and visitors participating in 2016.
Open Farm Week will give people a behind-the-scenes look at Vermont's working landscape, celebrating the "farm" in "farm to table." Last year's events ranged from tastings and tours, to tractor rides and on-farm dinners. Events for 2016 will be posted in late spring at www.DigInVT.com/OpenFarmWeek.
