DFR issues consumer alert about winter storm damage, insurance

Do you know what storm damage is covered by your homeowners insurance?

Winter storms and prolonged power outages can cause special problems for homeowners and can wreak havoc on roads and dwellings. Susan L. Donegan, commissioner of the Department of Financial Regulation, advised Vermonters today to be aware of their homeowners and auto insurance policies, what they cover and the deductibles. People should also have their insurance agentís phone number easily accessible, make sure the policy is up to date and the premiums have been paid.

Consumers should also check their policies to make sure they have adequate liability limits and know what their responsibilities are concerning clearing ice and snow from their walkways, driveways, and roofs.

For more information, visit the website: www.dfr.vermont.gov or call the DFR consumer assistance line at 800-964-1784.
