Expansion of Online Business Services a Success

Thirty-seven percent of corporations and LLCs are now filing reports online

Montpelier. Today, Secretary of State Deb Markowitz announced that 37 percent of Vermont’s corporations and LLCs filed their annual reports online during the last renewal cycle. Markowitz said, “Many Vermont businesses have been asking the Secretary of State’s Office to expand services to permit them to file their corporate and LLC annual report forms online. In response to these requests, the office inaugurated this service a year ago and has been pleased to find that many businesses chose the convenience of online filing.”

This year approximately 35,500 corporations and LLCs filed year-end annual reports with the Secretary of State’s Office. Of these, over 13,000 filed online. Annual reports require businesses to update information about their corporation or LLC and require the payment of a fee. Businesses that file online submit forms through the Secretary of State’s website, and pay the required fee with a credit card. Markowitz said, “We believe that online filing is good for business in Vermont. Not only is it more convenient for Vermont’s business community, but online filing also frees up our staff to offer even better service to businesses that are starting or expanding in Vermont.”
