Gov. Shumlin issued the following statement after the United States Postal Service included the White River Jct. mail-processing center on the list to remain open:
“This is great news for Windsor County and Vermont. By keeping the White River Junction facility open, the postal service will protect the 250 hardworking employees without implementing counterproductive cuts in processing plants or slowing down mail delivery service for Vermonters. My thanks go out to Sens. Bernie Sanders and Patrick Leahy and Congressman Peter Welch for their determination to protect rural post offices that are important to community life and economic opportunities.”
BREAKING UPDATE: The Postal Reform bill has passed in the U.S. Senate by a vote of 62-37.
