The Vermont Big Game Trophy Club will be holding its annual Big Game Awards Banquet and Trophy Show and the 2nd annual Vermont Taxidermy Classic on August 6 at the Elks Club in Montpelier, VT.
This annual event promises to be one of the greatest displays of Vermont big game trophies and taxidermy that has ever been assembled under one roof. The two day event starts on Friday Aug 5 with the Vermont Taxidermy Classic, a nationally recognized taxidermy competition that will feature mounts from dozens of the top taxidermists in the northeastern United States. The day will be filled with educational seminars for beginner and master taxidermists alike. Participating taxidermists will then submit their best works of art to compete for trophies, ribbons and many other top honors in the taxidermy field.
One unique and rare feature of this year’s Classic is the fact that the entire judging staff of Kevin Conroy, Lou Gagliano, and Vermont’s own Mark Moody, Pete Lajoie and Mike Adams are all former national champions in the fields they will be judging. For a Northeast taxidermist, this year’s Classic is a must.
On Saturday, August 6th the doors open at 10 am for the Big Game Trophy Show. This show is open to the public and features dozens of 2010’s top whitetails, bear and moose, including the Scott Carter buck, a 156” brute that has been recognized as the new Vermont state record muzzleloader buck. Additionally there will be many giant whitetails from years gone by including several Boone and Crockett accepted whitetails.
Lane and Larry Benoit, the legendary and iconic deer trackers from Duxbury, Vermont will be on hand to visit with sportsman sharing tips and stories on how they have bagged the biggest bucks that walk the north woods. On a rather historic note, Larry Benoit has decided it is time for him to share with the public and fans his collection of Vermont whitetails that he has personally tracked down and killed right here in the Green Mountain state. Never before have these bucks been on a public display and Larry and Lane will be right there to tell you how they came to their final resting place on the wall of Larry’s living room. This once in a lifetime opportunity is one not to be missed.
The day culminates with the Big Game Awards Banquet for the 2010 hunting season. Lane Benoit will be the featured speaker and the VBGTC will be recognizing several new state records. Awards for the best of the best of the 2010 hunting season will be presented and the major awards for the Taxidermy Classic will be presented as well.
As the VBGTC‘s primary fundraiser for the year, there will be raffles, games and sponsorships available to all attendees. Some special raffle items include: the first ever VBGTC Commemorative Felber knife handcrafted especially for the event by Mike Felber, a Larry Benoit knife handmade by the legend himself, a Big Woods Bucks commemorative Remington 7600 30/06, Traditions muzzleloader courtesy of Lane Benoit and Traditions Muzzleloaders and many more hunting products, taxidermy gift certificates, guns etc.
