State Offering Free Seminar Regarding Federal Contracts

MONTPELIER, Vt. – Companies looking for federal contracts can learn how to get business with the U.S. Department of Defense at a free seminar in White River Junction.

The Vermont Procurement Technical Assistance Center (VT PTAC) – a part of the state Department of Economic, Housing and Community Development – will present the seminar on Wednesday, September 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn & Suites at 102 Ballardvale Drive in White River Junction.

“This is a great opportunity for small businesses to tap into new markets,” said June Plankey, Program Director of the Vermont Procurement Technical Assistance Center.

Cynthia Nevin, Director of the Land and Maritime Small Business Office at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), will present a seminar on doing business with the Department of Defense.

This seminar will be dedicated to teaching companies how to successfully do business with the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio, one of only three large Defense Supply Center installations in the country.

Topics to be covered include:

• Defense Logistics Agency background

• DIBBS (DLA Internet Bid Board System)

• How to get started

• Drawing and Technical Data Retrieval

• Set-asides, goals, Socio-Economic Programs

• Automated Best Value System (ABVS)

Plankey said Columbus is the lead center for purchasing Land and Maritime spare parts and this seminar will give participants personal contact with someone who can be their advocate at the installation.

“DLA Land and Maritime spends over $3.5 billion every year with over 60 percent of the dollars awarded to small businesses,” Plankey said. “They are currently looking for machine shops, fabricators, and electronics firms who can produce components for vehicles, guns, and ships.”
