Vermont Secretary of State’s Office Names New State Nursing Board Director

Montpelier. The Secretary of State’s Office is pleased to announce Mary L. Botter, Ph.D., R.N., as the new Executive Director of the Vermont Board of Nursing. Botter, who resides in Shelburne, Vermont, has held a number of leadership positions in university and hospital settings, most recently as Assistant Professor and Associate Dean at the University of Vermont, and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Fletcher Allen Health Care. She also participated within several local, national, and international organizations, serving in a variety of roles. Her extensive background has provided her with experience in clinical practice, teaching, administration, consulting, and research.

Secretary of State Deb Markowitz said, “We are delighted to have Ms. Botter join the Office of Professional Regulation and we are looking forward to her contributions as Executive Director of the Vermont Board of Nursing.”

Ms. Botter replaces Anita Ristau, M.S., R.N., who is retiring after serving as executive director for nearly 13 years. Ms. Ristau is highly regarded for her leadership, both regionally and nationally.
