Robert Kelley of Brandon will Serve Two-Year Term
Montpelier, VT – Governor Jim Douglas today announced the appointment of Robert Kelley of Brandon as student representative to the State Board of Education. Kelley, an incoming junior at Otter Valley Union High School, will serve a two-year term on the state board.
“We had many impressive student candidates this year,” Governor Douglas said. “I am very pleased to appoint Robert to the State Board. He will bring an important perspective to the board and help transform education in our state to meet the needs of a changing 21st century economy,” he added.
Robert Kelly currently serves as the student representative on the Otter Valley Union High School board, as well as a member of student council and winner of the Otter Valley Teacher Association’s Citizenship award last year.
The State Board of Education is responsible for supervising and managing the Vermont Department of Education and the Vermont public school system. It consists of eight adult and two student members appointed by the governor. Student members are appointed to two-year terms and become full voting members in their second year. Robert Kelley joins ranking student representative Alex Melville of Woodstock, who replaces outgoing board member Tess Savage of Starksboro as the student voting member.
