Small Business Owners Invited to Learn to Navigate Government Contracting at Three Free Workshops

The Vermont Procurement Technical Assistance Center (VT PTAC) invites small business owners to three upcoming workshops:

Selling to the Government:

This 2-hour workshop is designed to help Vermont small business owners understand the processes used by Federal, state and local governments to procure products and services. In this introductory workshop you will learn the basic fundamentals of government contracting. VT PTAC's trained and knowledgeable counselors help you determine if there are opportunities for your small business, clarify the requirements, and simplify the process of government contracting and subcontracting. Topics include marketing your small business to the government, how to locate bid opportunities, understanding the registration process, and how to successfully compete for government contracts. Wednesday, August 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Manchester Town Hall in Manchester Ctr.

Women-Owned Small Businesses Contracting Program:

Kathy Andrus of the Vermont Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and the VT PTAC team will outline the Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) and Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) designations and how companies can compete for government contracts. The VT PTAC team will focus on the requirements of government contracting and how women-owned small businesses can become qualified vendors. Topics include information on eligibility requirements, steps to a WOSB or EDWOSB certification, marketing your company as a WOSB or EDWOSB. Friday, August 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation in Burlington.

Understanding the System for Award Management:

The System for Award Management (SAM) is the primary database for vendors doing business with the Federal government. The SAM streamlines processes, eliminating the need to enter the same data multiple times, which enables process efficiency. This hands-on workshop is designed to help new and existing companies understand the SAM registration and account creation process. VT PTAC will provide individual assistance to migrate former Central Contractor Registration (CCR) to SAM account activation and updates. Laptop required. Wednesday, August 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Newport.
